The thing about meetings is that, no matter how you try, your mind wanders. Not all the time, and not for the same reason every time.

For several years I worked at Microsoft, where meetings can be as stultifying as they are numerous. There are many ways to deal with the inevitable boredom that grips you when you're in an endless, pointless meeting. Some people send emails from their cell phones, others surf the web on their laptops, and a few actually sleep. I doodled to pass the time.

Over the years I amassed quite a collection of pointless shapes and figures in the margins of my notepad, a few examples of which are shown here in all their ballpoint glory.

UPDATE

Phoebe Literary Journal, Fall 2008

The Fall 2008 Phoebe Literary Journal includes multiple examples of my meeting doodles. Thanks to editor Ethan Edwards for contacting me - the issue looks great.

UPDATE

Long story short: I've found myself back at Microsoft. Keep an eye out for meeting doodle updates...
