Nanchang Diary, The: The Adoption of Victoria Santina Huang He Ping Tartivita

This is a cover I designed for my friend Carm Tartivita, who wrote a book about the experiences he and his wife Trish had while adopting their daughter in China.

Carm wanted the cover to have the feel of an actual journal. For this, I found an old ledger book with worn leather corners. A little bit of resizing to fit the format of the book, and I had a promising start.

Next, I found a version of the graphic that adorns Mao Tse-tung's Little Red Book of quotations. I placed it on the journal, and "distressed" it to look like a worn embossing.

Lastly, I took a photo of Victoria, cropped it and applied the border, and placed it over the cover.
